The pressure calibration process generally involves the following steps:
Preparation: The instrument under test (IUT) is prepared by ensuring it is clean, properly installed, and free from damage. Environmental conditions like temperature and humidity are stabilized or recorded, as they can influence calibration results.
Selection of Reference Standard: A calibration standard with a higher accuracy than the IUT is selected. This standard should be traceable to national or international measurement standards, ensuring the reliability of the calibration.
Measurement and Comparison: The IUT is subjected to a series of known pressure points generated by the reference standard. At each point, the readings from the IUT are compared with the known values from the standard.

Calibration standards must be traceable to recognized national or international standards, such as those provided by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the United States. Traceability ensures an unbroken chain of comparisons, each with documented uncertainties, linking the measurement results to primary standards.
