When installing a device with a parallel DIN 3852 thread what are the recommended sealing methods to prevent leaks?

Recommended Torque Settings #

G1/4″: approx. 5 Nm

G1/2″: approx. 10 Nm

G3/4″: approx. 15 Nm

G1″: approx. 20 Nm

DIN 3852 pressure port

Recommended Sealing Methods #

  1. Bonded Seals (Dowty Seals):

    Description
: A bonded seal consists of a metal washer with an elastomeric ring bonded to its inner diameter. This type of seal is effective for parallel threads, providing a reliable barrier against leaks when compressed between the mating surfaces.
Installation: Ensure that the bonded seal is properly positioned between the connection points before tightening.

  2. Elastomeric Sealing Washers:

    Description
: These washers are made from materials like rubber or silicone and can be placed between the flat surfaces of the connection. They compress under pressure to create a seal.
Selection: Choose a washer compatible with the fluid being sealed and capable of withstanding the operating temperature and pressure.

  3. Thread Sealants:

    Description
: Thread sealants, such as PTFE tape or liquid thread sealants, can be applied to the threads to fill any gaps and enhance sealing. While not typically used for parallel threads, they can provide additional security in certain applications.
Application: Apply the sealant carefully to avoid excess that could enter the system.

  4. Flat Gaskets:

Description: Flat gaskets can be used in conjunction with parallel threads where a larger sealing surface is available. They must be made from suitable materials that match the application’s requirements.
Installation: Ensure that both surfaces are clean and flat to achieve an effective seal.

Installation Considerations #

  • Surface Preparation: To ensure optimal sealing, clean all mating surfaces, making sure they are smooth and free from debris or damage.

  • Tightening Procedure: Follow the manufacturer’s specifications for tightening torque of their seals to avoid over-compression of seals, which can lead to failure.

  • Compatibility Check: Verify that selected sealing materials are compatible with the fluids used and can withstand operational conditions.

By using these sealing methods appropriately, you can effectively prevent leaks in installations involving parallel DIN 3852 threads without captive O-ring seals or metal-to-metal sealing options.
